Aeonik Font Family

Aeonik font is a modern sans-serif font family. London designers Mark Bloom and Joe Leadbeater built it between 2015 and 2018 and launched it on 30 Sept 2018 through Bloom’s London foundry, CoType. Their brief: make “the next Helvetica” a lifelong workhorse that looks crisp on a 12-pixel phone button, a 3-meter billboard, and a cheap Arabic receipt printer.

    Logo & look

CoType writes its name in Aeonik Extended Black, with tracking tightened 10 units. The letters themselves are wider than Helvetica, with an x-height 4.8% taller, closed apertures, a spurless ‘t’, a flat-topped ‘j’, and perfect circles for ‘o‘.

    Hidden bits

    • The Bitcoin sign has a one-unit overshoot – a nod to crypto volatility.
    • A scrapped Hairline 18-unit weight lives only in lecture slides.
    • Pirated v1.000 still carries a Day-1 “Ta” kerning crash – easiest bootleg spot.
    • Buyers get a 64-page fluorescent-yellow specimen book and free variable fonts.
