Details

Lato Hairline font.

Lato Hairline is the lightest-feeling style in the Lato family, made for clean, quiet typography where a thin line and plenty of space matter.

About Lato Hairline

Lato Hairline uses a very slim 100-weight construction, so it works best when the design gives it room to breathe. Its thin strokes can look elegant in large headings, short labels, minimal title cards, and refined interface accents. Because this cut is so light, it is not the best choice for long paragraphs, small captions, or low-contrast backgrounds.

The download includes TTF files for a normal style and an italic style. Use the preview tool to test your own words at the size you plan to use, especially if the text will appear on mobile screens or over an image. For body text, pair it with a heavier Lato weight or another readable sans serif so visitors do not have to strain.

When exporting graphics, check the final image at the size people will actually see. Hairline text can look clean in the editor but become faint after compression, printing, or mobile scaling, so keep important words large and high contrast.

Features

  • Very light 100-weight style for delicate headings and display text
  • Regular and italic TTF files for simple desktop and web testing
  • Part of the Lato family name with the Reserved Font Name "Lato" in the license text
  • Best used at larger sizes where the thin strokes stay visible

Best Uses

  • Minimal headings, hero titles, and short display lines
  • Elegant labels, section titles, and editorial accents
  • Clean UI mockups where the text is large enough to remain readable
  • Pairing with heavier Lato styles for contrast

License Information

Lato Hairline is licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1. The license text also includes the Reserved Font Name "Lato", so check the OFL terms if you plan to modify, rename, redistribute, or embed the font in a product.

Usage Tips

Use Lato Hairline for short, large text. Avoid using it for small body copy, dense menus, or pale text on light backgrounds, because the 100-weight strokes can become hard to read. This simple check prevents elegant titles from turning into hard-to-read decoration.
