The Karla font is a grotesque sans-serif family in Latin and Tamil. Designed by Jonny Pinhorn and released in 2011 through Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License. The designer, Jonny Pinhorn, is a U.K.-based freelance and typographic designer. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s from the University of Reading and the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design.
His inspiration for this font is rooted in his interest in Indian scripts and typography. However, he worked in India for an Indian type of foundry for 3 to 4 years.
The Karla sans-serif typeface was generated for Tamil and Latin scripts. “Initially, the font was limited to the Latin family. Eventually, it became a part of the variable font after several updates. The Latin script is part of the family, with Roman and Italic styles. It comprises a complete range of weights, from extra-light to extra-bold.
Additionally, it supports the maximum number of languages, including South-Eastern European, Central European, and Western.
The Klara font is available in both open type and true type. In addition, this font has a regular weight and 167 characters in its version 1.000 with no fixed pitch. The font has 116 glyphs and 154 unique characters. However, the Caravel font is the most similar to the Karla font.
Kalra font is ideal for designing the shapes that provide great simplicity and minimalism. This font is mostly used for designing display projects. However, This beautiful typeface is useful for creating logos, website designs and templates, blog designs and templates as well.
