The Beastars Font is associated with the Beastars. Beastars (stylized in all caps as BEASTARS) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki. It originated in 2016 when it began serialization in Akita Shoten’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Champion. The series is set in a world of anthropomorphic animals where there’s a cultural divide between carnivores and herbivores, with laws prohibiting the consumption of meat.

The idea started in Itagaki’s short stories called “Beast Complex.” She loved Disney animal films as a kid, so she kept the talking-animal idea and built Beastars from there.

Different Forms/Versions

Beastars has expanded beyond its original manga format into several different media forms:

Manga: The original format, consisting of 22 volumes collected from 196 chapters published between September 2016 and October 2020.

Anime: A three-season animated series produced by Studio Orange, known for its expertise in 3D CGI animation. The anime adaptation began in 2019 and was licensed by Netflix for international distribution.

Music: The series features several original soundtrack albums composed by Satoru Kosaki, including:

  • “Beastars (Original Soundtrack)” for Season 1
  • Additional soundtrack albums for subsequent seasons
  • A “Final Season” soundtrack was released in 2025

Merchandise: A wide range of products, including figures, plush toys, apparel, posters, and collectibles.

Games: While there are no standalone Beastars video games, the series has collaborated with other games, including “Beastars x Caravan Stories” and “Beastars x One Night Werewolf.”

Branding and Logo Design

The Beastars logo isn’t hand-drawn; it’s actually a modified version of Burford Rustic Book Black, a vintage-style font made by designer Kimmy Kirkwood.

To get that gritty, scratched look, the team used the font’s “alternate” letters (think of them as stylistic extras). Once they found the combo they liked, they stuck with it: the same rough word-mark shows up on CD covers, Blu-ray cases, shirts, and just about everything else official.

Fonstars by Ripoof:  Another replica font inspired by the Beastars branding.

Lesser-Known Facts

  • Secret creator – Paru Itagaki never shows her face; she puts on a big chicken mask every time she appears in public.
  • No people at all – Humans don’t exist in the story. Every job, law, and building was made by walking, talking animals.
  • Old war – About 100 years ago, meat-eaters and plant-eaters fought a worldwide war. The uneasy peace in the show is built on that memory.
  • Dino faith – Most animals worship dinosaurs, believing the giants were the first smart civilization.

Conclusion

The real logo uses a tweaked version of a font called Burford Rustic. If you just want something close, grab the free fan fonts “Beastars” or “Fonstars”; they already have the rough look and built-in slash.
