Lobster Font

Today we will talk about a beautiful and popular font called Lobster. The lobster font was designed by Rosario-based Argentinian type designer Pablo Impallari and published by Impallari Type in 2010. The Google font library also introduced the font. This is a font that can look beautiful even if you are not a designer. The font is very neat with details, many ligatures, a bold personality, and is carefully crafted. More than 20 million people have already downloaded and used this font.

It is a script font with 345 glyphs and 715 characters. From the designer, Pablo Impallari’s website, we learn that the font has 26 lowercase letters. There are more than 600 possible combinations for each letter (and more than 15,600 combinations for the alphabet). It isn’t easy to make each letter always connect seamlessly without compromising the shape it was originally meant to be.

OpenType allows us to create multiple variations of each letter, which we are doing with this font. We draw many different versions of each letter and various letter combinations (known as “ligatures”). Depending on the context of the letter inside each word, we choose the closest variation of that letter. Any browser supporting ligatures will do this automatically.
